Issue 191 “UNION NEWS” July/August 2026

Victory
‘…no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up.
Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.’ Mark 3:27

Sometimes we can be left overwhelmed in the face of the evil we see
in the world. Evil can seem too strong for us. Indeed, it is too strong
for us. But this summer we would do well to remember that, however
it may seem, the devil has been bound by someone strong, and his
‘kingdom’ is being plundered.

Christ’s coming was like an invasion into the devil’s territory. Jesus’ death and resurrection were the fatal blow
for the forces of evil. While the devil still takes vicious swipes at us, he
is in retreat. When Jesus comes again, his eternal Kingdom will come
with him. Evil’s days are numbered. As Christ’s people today, we play
our part in advancing God’s unstoppable kingdom by loving and
obeying him, and by loving and serving one another, confident that
Victory-Day is inevitable.

Take heart this summer and put your trust in
the Lord Jesus Christ. He is stronger than all evil.

Silver
At the 10am service on 14th June we were delighted to announce that
Silver Chukwuemeka has come on board as Youth and Children’s
Ministry Intern for the year ahead. This is very exciting news for the
union! It is an opportunity for us as a church family to give opportunity
for Silver to use and develop her ministry gifts, and for Silver to
continue to pass the faith on to the next generation. Please pray for
Silver as she takes this ministry on.

Confirmation Service
It was a great joy to witness a number of our young people make their
Confirmation vows at St. Etchen’s, Killucan, on 7th June. As we
welcomed Bishop Pat into the parishes for the last time it was great to
see a full house. There was great singing during a heartfelt service.
Congratulations to Cecily, Sam, Tom, Eve, Lily, Scott, and Erica. Please
keep them in your prayers as they continue to grow in faith and
embrace the baptismal vows which they have now affirmed for
themselves.

Baptism
Congratulations to Cecily Guinness Von Maltzan, who was baptised
surrounded by friends and family at Almoritia Church on 26th May
2026. Please pray that Cecily would continue to grow in the faith into
which she has been baptised.

Summer Songs of Praise
Join us in Almoritia Church at 7pm on 23rd August for our Summer
Songs of Praise service. It would be great to see you there – and why
not bring a friend!

Service of Healing & Wholeness
On 30th August, at 10am, in All Saints’, there will be a united service of
Healing & Wholeness and Holy Communion. All welcome from around
the union, and beyond!

All Saints’ School
Many thanks to Mrs Denniston, and the rest of the wonderful staff at
All Saints’ NS for another year of hard work and dedication as they
educate our children. We pray for everyone involved in the school as
they take a well-deserved break, and for the new junior infants and
their parents as they get ready for the 2026-27 school year.

Vision & Mission
After a united service in All Saints’ on 31st May, we met in the Greville
Arms for our Vision and Mission forum. Many thanks to all who took
part. A tremendous amount of information was collected which will
help shape the direction of travel for our parishes in the years ahead.
We are still working through the information and the results will be
shared before the end of the summer.

Sunday School Thanksgiving
On Sunday 21st June at morning service in All Saints’ we held a
thanksgiving service for a year of Sunday School. It was a lovely
celebration as we thanked God for his provision in the year gone by.
Anna Kiernan gave a heartfelt report on what went on in Sunday
School over the year, and thanked all the teachers, the children and the
parents for making it happen. Many thanks to the whole church family
for supporting and encouraging Sunday School. I think everyone will
agree that it benefits the whole church – not just the children! Please
pray that the leaders get a good rest over the summer and that we
come back even stronger next September.

Coffee Mornings
We have had a great year of coffee mornings. Each coffee morning has
been a lovely opportunity to get together to support great causes.
Many thanks to everyone who has made these special occasions
happen, and to all who have come along during the year. We will be
taking a break for July and August but plan to return in September.
