Issue 184 “UNION NEWS” November 2025
Turn Our Hearts Lord
‘Turn my heart towards your statutes, and not towards selfish gain.’ Psalm 119:36
November is a month of remembrance, marked by All Saints Sunday and Remembrance
Sunday. On Remembrance Sunday, we honour those who left this place to serve in
war—whose loyalty and sacrifice helped protect others and defend our way of life. We also
remember those currently serving on the front lines, working to protect the vulnerable and
pursue justice and peace. We give thanks for their courage, while grieving the ongoing
violence in our world. In this season, we echo the prayer of Psalm 119: “Turn my heart
toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.” We ask God to turn not only their hearts,
but our own—from selfishness to His Word, and to Jesus, who offers life and peace. May we
be shaped by God, so that our lives and church reflect the heart of the God of peace and the
values of His righteous Kingdom.
Coffee Mornings
We are delighted to announce that the coffee mornings will begin again in All Saints’ Church
on Thursday 6 th November from 10:30am-12noon and will continue every Thursday after
that. The first Coffee Morning will be raising money for Meals on Wheels. It would be great
to see this well supported – all welcome.
Grounded Youth Group
Our new youth group for secondary school-aged teens. This group will be run in partnership
with Mullingar Presbyterian Church and Mullingar Christian Fellowship. Grounded Youth

Our hope is that these meeting can help
young people become deeply rooted in God, building a strong foundation of faith that
guides their lives. These meetings will move between the 3 church buildings. We also hope
to meet monthly on a Saturday night for a worship service called Lost and Found.
Here are the November dates and Venues:
Friday 7 th November – @ Mullingar Presbyterian

Looking Back on Harvest
Harvest was a fantastic season in our parishes, full of praise and thanksgiving for all God’s
good gifts to us. All four services were full houses and wonderful times of worship and
thankfulness.
We met in Almoritia on Sunday 28 th September, where Canon Isaac Delamere
reminded us of Jesus’s call for us not to worry, rather to rely on God’s provision.
On Sunday 5 th October we were in Kilbixy with Rev Simon Scott, and had the bonus celebration of
church warden David Miller’s 80 th birthday!
In Killucan on 12 th October, Psalm 126 reminded us that God always delivers his people. It was great to see so many young people lead the
prayers on that occasion.
On 19 th October we met in All Saints where we were reminded
that the Holy Spirit grows the fruit of love, joy, and peace in the hearts of God’s people.
Many thanks to the children from the school and the Sunday school for doing the reading
and the prayers, and to the choir for leading us in worship.
There were wonderfuldecorations inside and outside of all the churches, including a nice shiny new harvester in
the field at Almoritia. Great hospitality was enjoyed by all after the services. Many thanks
to all who put in the work before, during, and after the services, and to all who came along.
Advent Reading
As the busy run-up to Christmas begins, it’s important to find ways to keep our hearts and
minds focused on the Lord. One great way to do this is through devotional reading.
With that in mind, Advent devotional booklets will be available in our churches on the
Sundays leading up to Advent.
This year’s booklet is Hallelujah by Dave & Sally Gobbett,
which guides us through the Advent season using the themes of Handel’s Messiah.
Each day from November 30 th until Christmas Day includes a short Bible reading and
reflection. It would be wonderful to journey through this together as a church family. The
booklets will be available for €2 or next best offer!
Advent Carols
We are planning to hold an Advent Carol service at 7pm on Sunday 30 th November in All
Saints.
Whist Drive October 2025
There will be a Whist Drive on November 7 th and the 5 th December. All start at 8pm in All
Saints’ Church Hall. If anyone has items they would like to donate for prizes, please give to a
Church Warden or bring along on the night. With many thanks in advance
.
Re-Turn Bottle Donations for All Saints’ School
All Saints’ school is raising money through the Re-Turn scheme and would be delighted if
members of the community donated their cans and bottles to the school. There is a yellow
bin on site for donations. Please feel free to drop your empties into the school – they will be
greatly appreciated.
Family Quiz Night – Date for your Diary
The All Saints’ Parents Council are organising a Family Quiz Night on Thursday the 20th of
November between 18:00 and 20:00 in Mullingar Rugby Club. This is certain to be a great
night for all the family and tickets will be available soon through the school. There will be a
raffle on the night along with prizes for the quiz winners. Special thanks to Mullingar Rugby
Club for the use of their facilities.
Cash For Clobber
Our bi-annual Cash for Clobber drive is happening on Thursday the 27th of November. It is a
great opportunity to clear out unwanted clothes, shoes and bed clothes (not heavy duvets)
while also raising money for the school. The school will be open to accept donations on the
25th and 26th of November.
Christmas Jumper Sale
Over the last few years All Saints’ parents council have run a successful second-hand
Christmas jumper and accessories sale. The sale happens in the school and is open to both
children and parents. It is a great way to recycle clothes and accessories which prevents
them from ending up in a landfill. The parents council would be delighted to accept
donations of Christmas items in saleable condition from members of the community.
Donations can be dropped into the school.
Sunday Club
Sunday School continues at the 10am service in All Saints, every Sunday during school term,
except when there is a family service. All welcome.
Join the Parish Choir
Our parish choir adds so much to our morning worship and we are grateful for all they do.
The choir is always looking for new members. If you think you might be interested, please
talk to Bill McConnell or get in touch with Rev Ian.
Bereavement
In October, the parishes were saddened to hear of the passing of Hilary Gillmor. We
continue to hold Jordan, Alex, Bevon, Derek, Andrew, Helen, Joanne, and Muriel in our
prayers, asking that they may find God’s comfort as they grieve.
Baptism
On Sunday 5 th October we were delighted to welcome baby Gavin Mills, son of Mary and
Jack, into the church at his baptism in All Saints. Please continue to pray for Gavin as he
grows in the faith and life of the Church.
Pastoral Care
If you know of anyone who might like to be visited by the Rector, please get in touch with
him on 087 6223609.
