Dear Parishioners,<\/p>\n
Retirement
\nOlive and I would like to thank you all very much indeed for your very
\nkind words and compliments following the announcement of my
\nretirement as Rector of the Parish after 15 wonderfully happy years.
\nBoth Olive and I will miss you all very much. My last Sunday as
\nRector of the Parish will be on Sunday 10 th March. I will conclude my
\nministry with you by holding a Songs of Praise Service in All Saint\u2019s
\nChurch Mullingar at 4p.m. in the afternoon.. If you are able to attend
\nwe would be delighted.<\/p>\n
Whist Drives
\nThe next two Whist Drives will be held on Friday 2 nd February and
\nFriday 1 st March at 8.00 p.m. in All Saints\u2019. Olive has been involved in
\nthe organisation of the Whist Drives for the last 15 years and would like
\nto thank all those who have helped her so generously over the years. If
\nyou would like to join us at the Whist Drives it would be lovely to see
\nyou. They are always so enjoyable. If anyone has any prizes they
\nwould like to donate perhaps you would let Olive know.<\/p>\n
Patronal Festival for St. Etchen\u2019s
\nThe Patronal Festival for St. Etchen\u2019s falls on Sunday 11 th February.
\nThere will be a special service held at 11.30 a.m. in Killucan Church
\nand the Parish Choir will lead the music.<\/p>\n
Christian Voices Together
\nDuring my time in the Parish there has been a very warm relationship
\nestablished between the leaders of the different Christian churches. On
\nSunday 25 th February we will hold a special Ecumenical Service in the<\/p>\n
Cathedral at 4.00 p.m. We hope the Service will involve
\nchildren from all the Parishes and it would be lovely to see
\nthe Service supported by parishioners from the different
\nChristian churches. Arthur and Marion O\u2019Toole organised a
\ncoffee morning for the churches and a light lunch for the
\nclergy during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which
\nwas very much appreciated.<\/p>\n
Lighten Our Darkness
\nThe young leaders will be travelling to Liverpool Diocese on the
\nweekend of Friday 16 th February to make a presentation and to engage
\nwith a large number of young people in the different Parishes. This will
\nbe a very special trip for them and it is lovely to see how the young
\nleaders are involving themselves in so many different ways. Their
\nChristian influence and leadership is very much appreciated.<\/p>\n
Ash Wednesday and Lent
\nThis year Ash Wednesday falls on Wednesday 14 th February. There will
\nbe a special Service with music in All Saints\u2019 at 11.30 a.m. followed by
\na Lenten Lunch. Lent is a very important time in our Christian life and
\nI would like to wish you all a holy Lent in the Parish. It would be
\nlovely if a good number of parishioners were able to come to the Ash
\nWednesday Service and to the lunch. I extend a very warm welcome to
\neveryone.<\/p>\n
All Saints\u2019 School
\nOn Sunday 3 rd March there will be a special Service held in All Saints\u2019
\nat 11.00 a.m. to mark the 60 th Anniversary of the location of All Saints\u2019
\nSchool in the church grounds. Bishop Pat Storey will be the special
\npreacher and the young people in school will participate in the Service.
\nWe warmly invite not only the parents in the school but also former
\nparents and past pupils to this very special celebration.<\/p>\n
Revd. Hazel Scully
\nHazel and Ray have been wonderful parishioners of Killucan for many
\nyears. Hazel\u2019s ministry over the years has been so valued and
\nappreciated by everyone and her sensitive and compassionate pastoral
\nministry, fine preaching and wonderful singing has made a very big
\nimpact in the lives of parishioners. On Sunday 25 th February at 11.00
\na.m. in St. Etchen\u2019s Killucan we will hold a special Service to celebrate
\nHazel\u2019s ministry in the Parish and to show our deep appreciation of her
\nand her family who have always been so supportive. To mark this
\nimportant event there will just be one Servicein the Parish at Killucan
\nand I hope parishioners from each of the churches will come in good
\nnumbers to show their appreciation to Hazel at this special Service.<\/p>\n
Holy Baptisms
\nThis month there will be a number of baptisms in the Parish and we
\npray for the children who will be baptized and their parents and
\ngodparents.<\/p>\n
Bereavement
\nWe offer our deepest sympathy to Christopher and Louis Lomax and
\ntheir familyfollowing the very sad and untimely passing of their dad,
\nRon. Ron was so dearly loved by all of us in the Parish and his
\ncontribution in so many ways was deeply appreciated, most notably in
\nhis role as librarian to the Choir. Ron faced his illness with amazing
\ncourage and we pray that, now in the fuller presence of God, he may
\nrest in peace and rise in glory.<\/p>\n
We also offer our sympathy again to Bill McConnell following the
\ndeath of his brother Derek last year. A lovely memorial service was
\nheld on Saturday 27 th January in All Saints\u2019 which was attended by
\nDerek\u2019s widow and daughter Saoirse and dear friends. We pray that
\nDerek will rest in peace.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s World Day of Prayer
\nThe Service this year will be held on Sunday 3 rd March at 7p.m. in
\nKillucan.<\/p>\n

\nThere will be a celebration of Holy Communion in All Saints\u2019 at 11.00
\na.m. on Thursday 1 st February for St. Brigid\u2019s Day and on Friday 2 nd
\nFebruary for the Presentation of Christ in the Temple
