MULLINGAR UNION OF PARISHES

Dear Parishioners,

All Saints’ Day

On Wednesday 1st November, All Saints’ Day, there will be a special service of Holy Communion in All Saints’.  I do hope parishioners will be able to join us on this wonderful occasion when we can celebrate the beauty of All Saints’.

Commissioning of Luke Hawkins

Luke Hawkins, the much-loved and highly respected chaplain of Wilson’s Hospital School, will be commissioned as a Lay Reader by Bishop Storey at a special service in All Saints’ on Sunday 5th November at 11.00 a.m.  I warmly invite all the students at Wilson’s Hospital School and their families to this service as your support will mean a great deal to Luke on this important occasion.  Please mark the date in your diary

Remembrance Sunday – 12th November

The Remembrance Service this year will be held at 10.30 a.m. in All Saints’ church.  This annual remembrance is so very important as we remember not only those who have died and suffered in past wars but also, very regretfully, those who are suffering as a result of wars and conflicts in the present world.  I hope everyone will be able to find time to attend this service.  The special preacher this year will be Bishop David McClay, the Bishop of Down and Dromore Diocese, Northern Ireland.

All Creatures Great and Small

As part of our response to climate change we will hold a special service in All Saints’ on Sunday 19th November when we invite parishioners to bring their pets and plants.  It is so important to remember that God’s world is made up of a community much wider than just human beings.  At this time of climate change we must remember the importance of animals, insects, birds and plants.  Please come and bring your much loved pets for this Service of Blessing.

Children’s Bible Camp

The summer Bible Camp for children was an enormous success and greatly enjoyed by all the children.  On Sunday 26th November Luke and Esther Hawkins are going to run a follow-up Camp for children from 3.30 p.m. – 5.00 p.m. in All Saints’.  The Bible Camp will launch our new Children’s Programme in the Parish and I invite parents to please bring their children as they will thoroughly enjoy this occasion.

Kilbixy – Service of Thanksgiving

On Sunday 26th November at 11.30 a.m. there will be a Service of Thanksgiving at Kilbixy for the restoration of the mausoleum.  We are greatly indebted to the Follies Trust for their generosity in undertaking the funding of the work of restoration.  After the service a lunch will be hosted at Kilbixy Church.

Parish Whist Drive

The Parish Whist Drive will be held on Friday 10th November at 8.00 p.m. and the Christmas Whist Drive on Friday 1st December.  The Whist Drives are most enjoyable, with great prizes and a delicious supper.  Everyone is warmly invited.

Table Quiz – Thursday 16th November

The Greville Arms Hotel is sponsoring a Table Quiz for the Parish on Thursday 16th November at 8.00 p.m.  Christy Maye is donating a colour tv as the first prize in the raffle and the Greville Arms Hotel are giving all the proceeds of the quiz to the Parish. I hope parishioners will be come to show their support for the enormous generosity of Christy Maye.  Table quizzes are most enjoyable so please invite your family and friends to come along.

School Fundraiser

The Parents Council in All Saints’ School are organizing a special fundraiser in the Bowling Alley on Lynn Road on Friday 10th November.  This will be a very enjoyable occasion and all the proceeds raised will be well used in providing extra resources for the school children.  I hope this event will be very well supported.  All details of the evening are available in the school.

Congratulations

We warmly congratulate Richard Tansley on receiving the Freedom of the City of York at a recent ceremony in York.  This award has a long family history and it was very special indeed that Richard was given the privilege of being made a freeman.  We warmly congratulate him.  This was certainly a red letter day for Richard, Caitriona and the family and we know it will be a cherished memory for years to come.  Richard’s father and earlier grandparents were also recipients.  Richard clearly comes from “very fine stock”.  Well done Richard.

Bereavement

We offer our deepest sympathy to Maria and Richard Williamson following the untimely and very sad passing of Maria’s mother in Finland.  Maria’s mother had not been well recently and her sudden death came as a great shock to all the family.  Over the years Maria’s parents had been regular visitors to Killucan and we had always enjoyed their visits.  The funeral will take place in Finland on Friday 10th November and our prayers and thoughts will be with them on that day.  We pray that God will comfort them in their time of loss and that Maria’s mum, now in the fuller presence of God, may rest in peace and rise in glory.

Harvest Festivals

All the harvest festival services in the Parish last month went very well indeed.  Again I would like to thank everyone who decorated the churches so beautifully and those who took part in the services.  The Emergency Centre in Mullingar for women suffering domestic violence were enormously grateful to receive all the harvest gifts of food which were kindly donated.

With God’s blessings,
