Dear Parishioners,
Lent 2023
During the month of March we will continue to observe Lent. Every Friday morning at 11a.m.in All Saints’ there will be a service of Holy Communion. This provides the opportunity for Lenten observance each week. There will also be special services on Sundays during the month which I hope you will be able to support by your attendance.
March Whist Drive- Friday 3rd March at 8p.m
The March Whist Drive will be held on Friday the 3rd of March at 8p.m. in All Saints’. The numbers attending Whist Drives this year has been very encouraging and everyone is assured of an enjoyable evening and a lovely supper. You would be most welcome if you are able to attend.
There will also be a Whist Drive in Tyrrellspass on Friday 17th March and in Moate on Friday 24th March at 8p.m. Your support for these Whist Drives would be very much appreciated.
Women’s World Day of Prayer – Sunday 5th March
This important occasion in the church year will I hope be very well supported by the Parish. Women play an essential and valued part in all our lives and it is important that we remember them. The service will be held in St. Etchens. Killucan at 11.30a.m. on Sunday 5th March. The service will be led by women in the parish and we all very much look forward to this occasion.
St. Patrick’s Day – Friday 17th March
To mark St. Patrick’s Day there will be a service of Holy Communion with special music in All Saints’ Church at 11a.m. At the service the shamrock will be blessed and the senior parish choir will sing St. Patrick’s Breastplate.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
There will be a parade in Mullingar starting at 3p.m. this year. The young leaders of Lighten our Darkness by Numbers have been invited to take part which is a wonderful tribute to them. We wish the organizers all the very best in the organization of the parade.
Select Vestry
The next meeting of The Select Vestry will be held in All Saints’ Church at 7.30p.m. on Monday 27th March.
Climate Sunday and Mothering Sunday – Sunday 19th March
To mark both these important occasions we are holding a special service in All Saints’ at 11am on Sunday 19th March. I do hope you will be able to support this service. As you know we are holding a Climate Sunday Service in each season of the year and the celebration of Mother’s Day is a most important event.
Pornography Technology and Children
The churches in Mullingar are organizing an important lecture on Thursday 30th March at 7.30p.m. in The Greville Arms Hotel. The recent research has highlighted the impact of pornography on children from 8 years and older. It is both a great concern and a profound worry. We are verry fortunate that a leading authority in this area Mr. Richard Hogan a distinguished psychotherapist in Dublin will be giving a lecture on the impact of pornography on children and teenagers. Everyone in the parish and the wider community- grandparents, parents, and concerned citizens are warmly invited to attend.
Holy Baptism
We warmly congratulate Nuada and Aille who were recently baptized in All Saints’. They are the great grandchildren of a former Rector of the parish Canon McDougall and we pray for them and their parents and godparents as they begin their journey of faith.
Mayfair- Saturday 20th May
This year we will hold the Mayfair on 20th May. It is always a very special occasion and I am sure it will be very well supported by everyone. Already plants are being prepared for sale and they are always sought after as are the cakes and other items. Please note the date in your diary.
Plant Stall for Mayfair
Catherine Gibson Brabazon( 0877461650) Arie Gorissen (0872742260) will be involved in the Plant Stall again this year. They hope parishioners will be able to provide some plants and they would like to remind everyone to undertake the potting of the plants now and if anyone requires pots, Arie has an ample supply.
Inspire
The Diocesan Magazine is published every month and contains all the Diocesan news. A number of parishioners pay the annual subscription. However if you wish to continue to subscribe and receive the magazine could you please contact the Hon. Treasurer John Hales 0872709685.
Bereavement
We offer our deepest sympathy to Lillian Hampton and Grace Lynam on the sad death of their sister Alison in Tralee, County Kerry. Alison was a twin of Lillian’s. In recent years she had not been well and throughout her illness she showed great courage and fortitude. We hope Lillian, Grace and the family will be comforted by their lovely memories of her and we pray that now in the fuller presence Alison may rest in peace and rise in glory.
Holy Days this month –
St. Patrick’s Day – Friday 17th March, Monday 20th March -St. Joseph’s Day and the Annunciation Saturday 25th March. There will be a service of Holy Communion at 11a.m. in All Saints’ on each day..
Lenten Bible Study – Sunday 26th March at 4.30p.m.
The Bible Study will be held on Sunday afternoon. Following consultation with parishioners it is clear that week day evenings and Saturday are no longer suitable times. I do hope that parishioners might like to come for a quiet hour on a Sunday afternoon to reflect on and learn about God’s word and how the Bible can be of benefit to everyone in today’s world.
Olive and I would like to wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day and a Holy Lent.
With kind regards and with God’s blessings
The Rev. Alastair Graham 0877870985
