MULLINGAR UNION OF PARISHES
Dear Parishioners,
The month of June
This month we look forward to a number of special occasions in the Parish. We also remember all the young people who will be undertaking State examinations.
Special Prayers for those undertaking Exams – Sunday 2nd
As we have done for the last few years, on the first Sunday in June, at the 10.00 a.m. service in All Saints’ there will be special prayers said for all those in the Parish preparing to sit their Junior and Leaving Examinations. I warmly invite the young people and their families to attend church. This Service provides a prayerful and peaceful preparation before the exams begin.
Pentecost
This important Christian occasion will be celebrated for the whole Parish on Sunday 9th June with special music and liturgical dance in All Saints’ at the 11.30 a.m. Service. Pentecost is the Birthday of the Church when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. This will be another special occasion for us all to come together in the Mullingar Union to praise God and bless His holy name.
All Saints’ End of Year Service
On Sunday 16th June at 10.00 a.m. in All Saints’ church, we will hold the End of Year School Service and the Principal, Mrs. Dennison, will give the Address. At the Service a special blessing is given to all the young people in Sixth Class who are moving on to secondary school. It is always a delight to welcome their families and all the other families in the school to this Service.
The Bishop’s Pastoral Visit – Sunday 23rd June
The Bishop will be making a pastoral visit to the Parish on Sunday 23rd June. There will be a United Service in All Saints’ at 11.00 a.m. Different groups in the Parish will participate in the Service and it will be a delight to welcome the Bishop again to our Parish.
Bible Sunday – Sunday 30th June
Each month in the Parish we gather for bible study and on Sunday 24th March last we held a special Service, where we thoughtfully considered God’s wisdom in the Bible. Many parishioners found this Service very helpful and have requested that a further Bible Sunday Service be held. On Sunday 30th June we will focus on God’s wisdom in the Bible at the Services in the Parish.
All Saints’ – Clean Up
In preparation for the Bishop’s visit, a ‘Clean Up’ will be held on Saturday 8th June at 10.30 a.m. to remove all the weeds and grass in the paths around the church. We would like all parishioners to help and, if you are able to come, please bring a hoe or spade to assist in removing the weeds.
Parish Readers Commissioning Service
The Bishop will be conducting a special Service to commission the Parish Readers in the Diocese on Sunday 16th June at 6.00 p.m. in All Saints’.
Rock Solid Youth Club
The last Rock Solid Youth Club night before the summer recess will be held on Thursday 20th June at 7.00 p.m. in All Saints’. The Rock Solid Youth Club is for young people from 11 years of age and for this last session the young people will be visiting the Youth for Christ Hub in Mullingar.
Select Vestry
A meeting of the Select Vestry will be held in the Rectory on Monday 24th June at 8.00 p.m.
St. Peter’s Day – All Saints’ Church – Saturday 29th June
On St. Peter’s Day in All Saints’ the monthly Bible Study will be held at 10.00 a.m. This will be followed by a Service of Holy Communion for St. Peter’s Day at 11.00 a.m. and at 12.00 noon there will be a Holy Baptism.
Healing Service
A Service of Christian Healing will be held in Trim Cathedral at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday 9th June.
Confirmation Class
A Confirmation class will be held in All Saints’ at 5.00 p.m. on Sunday 9th June.
Liturgical Dance
Siobhan Murphy will be rehearsing the young people for the dance on Pentecost at 4.00 p.m.-6.00 p.m. on Saturday 8th June. Those wishing to take part must be at least 11 years of age. We welcome both boys and girls to attend. The dance performance will be held on Sunday 9th June at the Pentecost Service in All Saints’.
All Saints’ School Sports Day
The Sports Day this year will be held in Wilson’s Hospital School on Friday 21st June.
Coffees on Thursday
Everyone is more than welcome to come for coffee on Thursdays in All Saints’ between 10.30 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. It is lovely to see so many people coming together for enjoyable company and rich conversation.
Emma Rothwell
Emma will be leaving Wilson’s Hospital School at the end of this term to pursue her academic studies in Dublin. We would like to thank Emma for her wonderful contribution to the Parish youth work, which has been truly inspiring and of great benefit to the young people. Emma will be very sadly missed but we warmly wish her well for her future pursuits and know that God will bless all the good work she undertakes with His grace.
Mayfair
The Mayfair, which was held on Saturday 11th May, was a wonderful success and was most enjoyable indeed. I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, particularly those who ran the stalls and those who helped with the setting up of the Fair and the clean up afterwards. It was a very special occasion and truly enjoyed by everyone. I would like to particularly thank Emma Coburn who kindly undertook to act as Organiser. She and her team did a very fine job and we owe them a great debt of gratitude.
Easter Vestry
The Easter Vestry, which was held on Sunday 12th May, went very well indeed and we wish all those who have been appointed and elected to Office the very best for their year of service.
Bereavements
We offer our deepest sympathy to Maureen Lee on the passing of her dear friend Josie. Maureen gave Josie enormous support, particularly in recent times, when she was residing in a nursing home. We pray that Maureen will be comforted by her memories of Josie and in knowing that, now in the fuller presence of God, Josie will rest in peace.
We also offer our deepest sympathy to the Grove family in Killucan following the death of Gordon Grove. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Ann and his children, family and friends. Gordon moved to live outside Killucan when he retired from working in England. He bore his recent illness with great courage and dignity. We pray that Gordon, now in the fuller presence of God, may rest in peace.
Tenth Anniversary
Olive and I will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary in the Parish on Tuesday 25th June. We have very rich memories of our time with you and fondly remember the Service of Institution which was held on that date in 2009. God has given us a great blessing during our time in the Parish. Olive and I will be holding a Service in All Saints’ at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday 25th June to offer our thanks and to pray that He will continue to bless our ministry in the Parish. If anyone would like to join us for this time of prayer you will be most welcome.
