Issue 105 “UNION NEWS” November 2018

 Dear Parishioner(s)

All Saints’ Patronal Festival

At the beginning of November each year we have the privilege of celebrating All Saints’ Day.  This year All Saints’ Day, 1st November, falls on Thursday and there will be a special Service of Holy Communion at 12.00 noon in All Saints’.  On Sunday 4th November we will hold the annual Patronal Festival Service for All Saints’ at 10.00 a.m.  The music and singing is always uplifting and I hope the parishioners of All Saints’ will attend in good numbers for this significant day in the Parish.

All Saints’ Whist Drives

The much loved and enjoyed Whist Drives in All Saints’ begin this Friday 2nd November at 8.30 p.m.  I warmly commend the Whist Drive to you.  It is a most enjoyable and friendly evening with a delicious supper and great prizes.  I hope that it will be well supported again this year.  The Christmas Whist Drive will be held on Friday 7th December at 8.30 p.m.

Remembrance Sunday 11th November

This year is the Centenary of the end of the First World War – Armistice Day, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918.  The Service will commence at 10.30 a.m. sharp and the two-minute silence and the cascading of poppies at 11.00 o’clock.  Given the significance of this occasion there will be just one Sunday Service held in the Parish to enable everyone to attend the Remembrance Service in All Saints’.  A Diocesan Service of Remembrance will also be held in Kildare Cathedral at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 4th November.

Thursday Coffee Mornings

On Thursday 1st November we celebrate the second anniversary of the Coffee Mornings in All Saints’.  This initiative has been so successful.   Every Thursday good numbers of people attend and the money collected for the charitable work in Mullingar now runs into thousands of euro.  We warmly thank Arthur and Marion O’Toole for this ministry and for their weekly preparation which is very time consuming and hard work.  Do please come this Thursday to show your warm support for this caring ministry in our Parish.

Rock Solid Youth Club

The Youth Club is going exceptionally well and the young people are finding it most enjoyable.  The November Youth Club will be held on Thursday 15th November at 7.30 p.m. in All Saints’.  Our Parish Youth Initiative is providing a safe and enjoyable opportunity for young people through their teenage years, and I warmly commend it to all parents and young people.

 Confirmation

The Confirmation Service on Sunday 28th October was wonderfully uplifting. The Bishop conducted the Service so beautifully and spoke so effectively to the young candidates.  The young people contributed in “their Band” with the playing of two modern hymns.  I sincerely commend all the young people who were confirmed to your prayers.  It was also lovely to have the participation at the Service by some of those who were confirmed last year.  So please pray for Mark Webster, Jane Duggan, Joanna Meskeniene, Kundai Manzira, Anna Gillespie, Luke Ray and Joshua Matthews.

Westmeath Orphans Society

The AGM of the Westmeath Protestant Orphan Society will be held at 2.30 p.m. in the Rectory on Thursday 15th November.

All Saints’ School Parents’ Council

I would like to warmly congratulate the Parents’ Council on the success of their recent Cake Sale after the Harvest Service, which raised 1000 euro.  I would also like to thank everyone who so generously supported this occasion and to the Parents’ Committee for all their hard work.

Children’s Festival

For the last few years we have held a special Children’s Music Festival on the third Sunday in November.  This year the Festival will be held on Sunday 18th at 11.00 a.m. in All Saints’.  I hope all the children and their families will come to this Service.  Last year it was truly invigorating and inspiring and almost 100 children participated.

Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Enrolment Service

This year the Enrolment Service will be held on Sunday 25th November at 11.00 a.m. in All Saints’.  This is a very important occasion for the young people and their leaders and we are so blessed in the Parish with the number of children in the Company and the fine leadership of our Captain David Webster and the other leaders.  In recent years a small number of parishioners have come to this Service.  However, this year I urge parishioners to attend to show their support for this very important Parish Youth Organisation.

Select Vestry Meeting

The Select Vestry will meet on Monday 26th November at 8.00 p.m. in the Rectory.

Advent and Christmas

This year there will be a number of special Services and events held in the Parish which I hope will give everyone an opportunity for some prayerful preparation for Christmas and also occasions to truly enjoy the Christmas Festive Season.  Details of all the Services and activities will be included in the next Union Notes which will be distributed at the end of November.

St. Andrew’s Day – 30th November

There will be a Service of Holy Communion in All Saints’ at 11.00 a.m. on Friday 30th November to mark St. Andrew’s Day.

Bereavement.

We offer our deepest sympathy to Margaret and Gerry King following the death of Margaret’s brother John after a short illness. We pray that John may rest in peace and Margaret and the family may be comforted by their memories of him.
