MULLINGAR UNION OF PARISHES
Issue 69 "UNION NEWS" November 2015
November - a Month to Remember
During this month there are a number of very special events in the Parish. We start next
Sunday, 1st November, with the visit of the Bishop of Limerick. The following Sunday, 8th
November, is Remembrance Sunday. We then have the Children's Festival on Sunday 15th
with Canon Peter Campion and his amazing puppets. On Sunday 22nd there will be the B.B.
Enrolment Service and on Sunday 29th the Ecumenical Candlelit Advent Carol Service.
In addition to these occasions we have the Youth Forum on Sunday 8th, the Charity Quiz on
Thursday 12th, the Choir Festival on Saturday 14th and the Christmas Fair and Showcase on
Saturday 28th, and the All Saints' Children's Concert will also be on Saturday 28th and, of
course, the Whist Drive on Friday 6th.
A leaflet is enclosed with the Union Notes with details of all these events and you will also
find the details on the website.
We are very privileged to have eminent church leaders coming to our Parish and to be able
to organise such special events. I do hope all parishioners will want to support these
occasions and so help us build a really healthy and vibrant Parish.
Rev. Peter Rutherford
Peter is warmly remembered in the Parish for his support and guidance during the vacancy,
when he was Rector of Castlepollard. He has now been appointed Rector of Kinsale in the
Diocese of Cork. We wish Peter and Janet every good wish for their new ministry. Peter has
very kindly invited me to preach at his Institution on 11th November.
Emma Rothwell, the Chaplain at Wilson's Hospital School and Diocesan Youth Officer, has
invited all young people from age 13 upwards, to join her in All Saints' at a special Youth
Forum on Sunday 8th November from 5.00-7.00 pm. This occasion will be exciting, enjoyable
and inspiring and I warmly commend it to all the young people. In the Parish we will not be
found wanting for creating a safe context in which young people can grow and develop. I will
be delighted if parents would give their encouragement to the young people in their family
to attend this special occasion.
On Saturday 28th November at 7.00 p.m. there will be a special concert in All Saints'. The
Musical Allsorts Children's Choir will be singing and the new All Saints' Children's Orchestra
will be performing. This promises to be a wonderful occasion and I hope it will be very well
Showcase and Christmas Fair - Saturday 28th November
The Parish is holding a special Showcase and Christmas Fair from 10.00 a.m. - 3.00 p.m. in All
Saints'. This is a wonderful opportunity for parishioners to display their business initiatives
and a Form is enclosed with the Union Notes. I invite parishioners who are undertaking
business initiatives to return their Expression of Interest Form and we hope that Saturday
28th will be a very successful occasion for them.
Karen Lomax would like everyone who has, or who is preparing, items for the Christmas Craft
Stall to contact her on 085-7165625. All contributions will be very welcome and included on
the Craft Stall.
The Charity Quiz on Thursday 12th November should be a very enjoyable occasion. It will be
held in the Annebrook Hotel at 8.00 p.m. All proceeds will be going to the 'Good for the Soul'
Choir Festival - Saturday 14th November at 8pm. You are warmly invited to come to hear
inspiring sacred music sung by a number of Choirs. The guest soloist will be Miriam
BB and Girls' Association
The annual Enrolment Service will be held on Sunday 22nd November at 11.00 a.m. This year
we will be inviting all the former members to attend. This is a very important youth
organisation in the Parish and warmly deserves our full support.
The next meeting of the Select Vestry will be held on Monday 2nd November at 8.00 p.m. in
I must apologise for the misleading notice I sent out which said that Coffee Mornings were
held every Wednesday. The Notice should have read that Coffee Mornings will be held on the
first Wednesday of each month from 10.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. and the next Coffee Morning will
be on Wednesday 4th November. Everyone will be most welcome.
Children's Tiny Tots Club
We hope to start a Children's Tiny Tots Club on Friday 13th November and it will run each
Friday from 9.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. I invite parents with young children to call in to All Saints'
on the Friday mornings.
The next Bible Study will be held on Saturday 14th November at 10.30 a.m. in Killucan
Bishop's Pastoral Visit
The Bishop will be visiting the Parish on Sunday 6th December and there will be a special
Children's Service at 11.30 a.m. in Killucan Parish Church.
Hospice Book Launch
The North Westmeath Hospice will hold a Book Launch at All Saints' on Wednesday 18th
November at 6.30 p.m. The speaker will be Miriam O'Callaghan, of RTE.
We welcomed into God's family recently Joshua Williamson. Joshua's baptism was very
special and we continue to remember Joshua, his parents and godparents in our prayers as he
begins his journey of faith.
We also offer our deepest sympathy to Joe and Annette Lalor following the death of
Annette's father. Annette's father had been unwell for some time and had borne his illness
with great courage and dignity.
We pray that Joe and Annette will be comforted by the love and support of their family and
friends and that Annette's father may rest in peace.
