The Month of May
During this month there are a number of very special occasions which I hope everyone in the
Parish will enjoy and hopefully be able to attend.
There will be a celebration of Holy Communion for Ascension Thursday at Almoritia on Thursday
9th May at 7.30 p.m. Each year it is a delightful Service and I hope it will be well supported.
On Saturday 11th May at 8.00 p.m. the St. Cecilia Singers from Dublin will give a concert at Kilbixy
Church. Their last concert was just wonderful and I do encourage you to attend. Tickets are very
reasonably priced at just €5.
Christian Voices Together - The Welcome Centre
The Welcome Centre will be open on Thursday 16th May at 12.30 -2.30 p.m. There was a very good
attendance in April and I do encourage you to support this occasion.
Killucan Bi-Centenary Celebrations 17th - 19th May
We all look forward to this very special weekend. There are four main events:
- the Bi-Centenary Songs of Praise in the church on Friday 17th at 8.00
- the Family and Children Fun Day from 12.00 noon - 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 18th at the Parish Hall
- the Bi-Centenary Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 19th at 11.30 a.m., with the special preacher
Archdeacon Andrew Pike- Canada
- the Bi-Centenary Lunch at the Bloomfield Hotel on Sunday 19th at 2p.m.
I know each of these events will be very well supported by everyone in the Mullingar Union.
Parish Cake and Plant Sale
The Parish Cake and Plant Sale will be held on Saturday 25th May from 12.00 noon - 2.00 p.m. in
All Saints' Parish Hall. This is our annual fundraiser for Parish funds and I do encourage you to give
the Sale your fullest support.
The Confirmation Service will be held on Sunday 26th May in All Saints' at 3.00p.m. The presiding
Bishop will be Bishop Roy Warke.
Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association
The closing session and Display, which is open to all members of the Parish, will be held in All
Saints' on Tuesday 28th May at 7.00 p.m. I do invite you to come to this important occasion and
support the leaders and young people.
All Saints' School
All Saints' School will celebrate the 50th Anniversary on the present site on Saturday 28th
September. The occasion will include an exhibition in the school and a Thanksgiving Service
followed by a dinner in the Greville Arms Hotel. Details will be shortly circulated and we hope that
everyone who has an association with the school will attend the celebrations. Please contact the
school if you would like further information. We also hope parishioners will tell Past Pupils who
may no longer live in Mullingar about the special Anniversary. We also congratulate the School on
becoming the Irish National Champions of the Scoil Dramaíocht (Irish Drama). This is a magnificent
achievement and we particularly congratulate Mr. Declan Fry and Third and Fourth Class.
The church bell that was used at Leney Church has now been relocated at All Saints'. A very
special thank-you to Philip Murray and the members of the Murray family, and Gerry King, who
organised the relocation. It will be lovely to have it on view.
We congratulate Cathy Finnegan on her success in acquiring her doctorate. This is a great
achievement and the result of many years of dedicated study.
We congratulate Erica Duggan, Oscar Connolly and Chloe Byers who were recently baptised. We
will continue to pray for each of them and, of course, their parents and godparents.
We were sad to learn of the death of Frank Tyrrell. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife
Phyllis and his family, particularly remembering in our Parish his son Ralph, who is a member of
Killucan. We pray that Ralph, his mother and all the members of the family will be comforted and
supported by God's love and care at this sad time.
During last month Cathy Hallissey was with us during her placement and she made a
wonderful impression on the Parish. It was a delight to have her with us and we wish her well
for her preparation for the ordained ministry.
With God's blessings,
Rev. Alastair Graham, Rector
The Rectory, Gaol's Hill, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
