MULLINGAR UNION OF PARISHES
Issue 64 "UNION NEWS" June 2015
A number of young people in the Parish are undertaking exams this month, and we extend to them
our very best wishes. It is always a very challenging time and I am sure all their hard work and
preparation will equip them well for the exams. I have been remembering all the young people in
my daily prayers and I hope we will all continue to pray for them over the next few weeks.
The Confirmation Service will be held in All Saints' Church on Sunday 14th June at 11.00 a.m. This
is a very important occasion for all the candidates and their families and I encourage you to
remember those preparing for Confirmation in your daily prayers. The candidates this year are
Cormac O'Fearghail, Hughie O'Neill, Alex Marr, Jennie Fletcher, Bevan Gillmor, James McGrath,
John Webster, Craig Gillespie, Oisín Ryan.
Rev. Ruth O'Kelly - Intern Deacon
Ruth's final Service will be on Sunday 21st June at 11.30 a.m. in St. Etchen's Killucan. It has been
lovely having Ruth with us in the Parish and we wish her well as she takes up her position as
Curate in Rathfarnham Parish. I do hope parishioners will be able to attend her final Service.
Cake and Plant Sale
The Cake and Plant Sale held on 23rd May was most successful and enjoyable. It was lovely to see
so many people from the Parish working together on the stalls and the Sale raised over €5,500.
This is a remarkable result. There were lovely raffle prizes and the tea and coffee supplied was
enjoyed by everyone. I thank all the parishioners who worked so hard to make this event such a
All Saints' School
The End-of-Year Service will be held on Sunday 21st June. This is always a lovely occasion and I
hope it will be very well supported by the children and parents. The School Concert on Thursday
21st May was an outstanding success and the performances by the children were simply
magnificent. Our sincere thanks are due to our Principal, teachers and staff at the School for the
enormous amount of work they put in to the preparation of the Concert.
Parish Vision Plan
On Sunday 24th May the Bishop commissioned the Select Vestry for their leadership role in the
Parish Vision Plan. The Select Vestry will be meeting on Monday 22nd June to finalise the Plan. The
implementation of the Parish Vision Plan will hopefully develop both the life and the potential of
the Parish and I sincerely hope the Plan will be very warmly supported by everyone.

The very sad death of Elsie Bourke came as a great shock to everyone in the Parish. Elsie had for
so long been such a loyal parishioner and was deeply loved and admired by everyone. The work
she did for the Parish was legend and her good humour and wonderful zest for life brightened up
every occasion she attended. She will be very sadly missed and we extend our deepest sympathy
to Ivan, David, Olwyn, Shirley and Adele, and all the other members of the family. Elsie had a very
strong faith and we pray that, now in the fuller presence of God, she may rest in peace and we
thank God for the many and special ways she touched all our lives.
Two other parishioners were bereaved recently. Watson Mills' brother, John, who lived in Strabane,
passed away peacefully after a very long illness which he bore with great dignity and courage. We
offer our deepest sympathy to Watson and pray that he will be comforted at this difficult time.
Margaret McCormack's mother also passed away peacefully. Margaret's mother, Bridget, lived to
the fine age of 96 and had been a wonderful mother and friend. During her long life she had won
the admiration of those privileged to meet her. We too pray that Margaret and her family will be
deeply comforted by God's love.
We pray that John, Watson's brother, and Bridget, Margaret's mother, may rest in peace.
