Comprising of All Saints Mullingar - Killucan - Kilbixy & Almoritia
MULLINGAR UNION OF PARISHES
Issue 52 "UNION NEWS" 1st June 2014
The candidates for Confirmation will be confirmed at the Service in Trim Cathedral on Sunday 15th
June at 11.30 a.m. We will remember the candidates, Daniel Chukuemeka, Heather Scott, Ruth
Forbes, Lucy Holmes, Stephen Walshe, Best Uyi, and their families in prayer as they prepare for
this very important and significant occasion in their lives.
Cake and Plant Sale
The Sale, which was held on Saturday 17th May, was a wonderful success and the money raised on
the day, excluding the donations, was almost 100% up on last year. I would like to thank everyone
who worked so hard to make the Sale so successful. It was lovely to see so many parishioners
coming to help on the Stalls and those who supported the Sale by their purchasing of the delightful
cakes and plants and tickets for the very good raffle.
On the evening of 17th May the first Bi-Centenary celebration took place in All Saints'. The singing
by the choirs and soloist, was truly inspirational and we are greatly indebted to the members of
the Parish choir, accompanied by Vincent Hunt, for all the time they took in preparing to sing on
this occasion. Very special thanks, of course, are due to the Musical Director, Bill McConnell, who
organised this most enjoyable event, including the wonderful barbeque and the pig-on-a-spit. Bill
was greatly supported by Doreen Lynch and choir members in the organisation of the barbeque. All
in all, the whole occasion was truly memorable.
Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association
The Company held it's final evening of this session on Tuesday 13th May. We were all greatly
entertained by the young people and we congratulate them on the awards they received. We
would also like to express our appreciation and thanks to the Company Captain, David Webster,
and the leaders for all the time and commitment they give. The Company began in 2009 and the
strength of the Company is now better than ever.
Bi-Centenary Rectory Coffee Morning
Olive, with the support of parishioners, is organising a special Coffee Morning at the Rectory on
Saturday 14th June from 11.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. The proceeds will go towards the holding of the
Flower Festival in November. We warmly invite all parishioners and we would be delighted to
welcome you to the Rectory for what we know will be a very friendly and enjoyable occasion.
Dr. Galvin, the researcher for the Parish Survey, is very pleased with the number of questionnaires
she has already received. However, she is aware that some parishioners have not yet returned the
completed questionnaire and she would be very grateful if they could do so as soon as possible.
Her report will be presented to the Parish in the autumn.
Bible Study will be held on Saturday 31st May at 10.30 am in All Saints'. The passage of Scripture is
Acts 12 verses 1-11. Everyone will be most welcome.
All Saints' School
The End of Year Service will be held on Sunday 22nd June at 10.00 a.m. in All Saints'.
Ascension Day - 29th May
Services will be held as follows: -
12.30 p.m. All Saints' Holy Communion
7.30 p.m. Almoritia Holy Communion
We baptised into God's family Marcus Richard Edward Denniston on Sunday 25th May. We will
continue to pray for him and his parents and godparents.
We offer our deepest sympathy to three families in the Parish who have been recently
John Humphries passed away peacefully in the middle of May having borne his illness with great
dignity and courage. Since his arrival in Mullingar from Scotland, John had a very active role in
developing the business life of Mullingar, more recently, in the Gateway Midlands Project. We
offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Debbie and his daughter Rebekah and we pray that they
will be warmly comforted by the love of their family and wide circle of friends.
Deirdre O'Kane's brother died suddenly in Dublin and his death came as a great shock, naturally,
to all in the family. We also pray that Deirdre, Steven and their family will be comforted by the
loving support of their family and friends at this difficult time.
We also offer our deepest sympathy to Sabine Kettelgerdes and Gregor and Anna, following the
death of Sabine's brother in Germany after an illness which he also bore with great courage and
strength. Sabine's brother had lived for part of his life in Westmeath and was known to many
people in the Parish. We pray that Sabine, Gregor and Anna will be supported by the comfort and
care of their family and friends at this time.
We offer our deepest sympathy to each of these families and we pray that their loved ones are
now at rest and that the assurance of God's loving promise will be both a support and a great
comfort to them.
The next meeting of the Select Vestry will be held on Monday 9th June at 8.00 p.m. in the Rectory.
